Developers, you are awesome for returning to update this app, please keep doing so. Also, if there could be a breakdown of the local cache as well as the total, it would allow me to spot articles i no longer need downloaded very simply and delete them on a case-by-case basis. This app has great features and provides the essentials, but it has a lot of room to improve adding useful but not necessary functions such as rotating the pdf pages and saving them in that orientation. I do the first read of every article I download on zotero, and my annotations get saved for future reference. In the past I’ve had to save articles to zotero and then open them in a separate app, which normally required saving the PDFs somewhere else taking up more space and increasing complexity: now that I’ve found papership I no longer need to do this. If you use Zotero (I’m not sure how it works w/ mendeley b/c I’ve never used that software) this app provides great integration with the zotero desktop app. I have spent loads of time and a bit of money finding pdf reading and annotating apps in a quest to go semi-paperless as a graduate student. Save yourself the headache and $10 by using the Zotfile plugin and a PDF reader of your choice until Zotero finally releases its iOS app. I can’t believe Apple still lets this app sell features that are completely nonfunctional. I later found lots of similar complaints going back several years on forums. But it doesn’t work and there is zero support from the developer. It was supposed to be automatic and seamless. The annotations I made to PDFs within the Papership app never showed up in Zotero. I liked the features (and didn’t see the purpose of a read-only PDF viewer that synced with Zotero) so I paid for the Annotations pack right away.

The app lets you preview the functionality of the paid features but it’s not a true trial - you get to play around annotating a sample PDF within the app but can’t test syncing the annotations with your own Zotero account. But to do any kind of markup on the PDFs, you have to pay for the Annotations pack. You can sync it with your Zotero library to view any PDF you have in Zotero. The app itself seems well-designed and intuitive. Apple should not let people pay for the in-app features because they DO NOT WORK.
